Grandma in Malahide
Ok, I found a little story while flipping through my journal.
My Grandmother and Mother were visiting me in Ireland a few years ago. I took them to this castle who’s signs I had been driving past. Malahide Castle is this small castle, or rather large pile of ancient looking bricks sitting on 250 acres. At the end of the tour, the guide asked if there were any questions and my Grandmother fairly shouted “When do we get to see the castle?” All of the other tourists turned to stare at her and our poor guide was momentarily speechless. I pretty sure that I turned purple. I know that I almost died in the corner of the room (which was as far away from her as I could get.) The guide politely explained that we had just seen the castle. My lovely Grandmother replied “Well! I’m very disappointed then!” Everyone just stared at her. I manager to recover enough to grab my grandma and guide her down the exit- thanking the guide and apologizing along the way-mother in tow.
I found out later that I had been one upped. Apparently my Aunt and Uncle had taken my Grandma to Germany to visit one of the castles that inspired the castle in Disney World. Comparatively speaking, my castle must have been “disappointing.” I like to think that her hearing aid went out and that’s why she was screaming, but I know better.

Oh, what a great little "hoot" of a story! I just ached for you!--Laughing-wise!
Semper Culcitat---Always Quilting
ROTFLMAO!!!! You gotta love people who get old enough to speak their minds and not care who's listening!!!
He he.. Yeah.
I did end up takiong them to Trim Castle as well, which has the bragging right of being in the Braveheart movie in a couple of scenes and is fairly more impressive. But the big hit was the Church of St. Burnadette (I believe). It had an amazing mozaic alter and we were even in time for confessions!
All three of us went to confesison. Grandma went first as me and mom rehearsed what we were suppose to say. As we left the Church, all 3 generations of us wondered if the priest was wondering where all of the Americans were coming from!
We all had a great time in spite of everything.
(Including catching my grandmother shoving fish parts down the sink drain on day three of her visit. I had to inform her that I didn't have a garbage disposal! :)
Adijike 2007 Thank you Church! I hope that we are all as cute and whimsical as your Grandma when we get there,
so our visits with young folks are memorable even if we can't remember.
